Tanya Lobo, Candidate for Taunton City Council, Named a “Rising Star” by Mass Alliance as Progressive Municipal Candidate
The Committee to Elect Tanya Lobo for Taunton City Council announced Tanya Lobo was named a “Rising Star” by Mass Alliance for her progressive values in her campaign for Taunton City Council. Lobo joins an esteemed list of candidates and municipal officials serving in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who are supported by Mass Alliance. If elected November 2, Lobo will be the first Black female City Councilor for the City of Taunton.
Lobo, an Afro-Latina who uses pronouns she/her/hers, is running on a platform to build a stronger, healthier Taunton for children and adults to have equitable access to opportunities in education, mental health, maternal health, financial literacy, and economic advancement.
“The momentous impacts of racial injustice and the pandemic of 2020 moved me to be an active change agent in my community,” said Lobo. “I am humbled to know others support me to this magnitude and will always keep people as my priority.”
A psychology major and veteran in early childhood development, Lobo is a known community advocate in the City of Taunton. In 2020, she founded T.R.U.E. Diversity, a grassroots civic and social organization dedicated to advocating for diversity, equity, equality and inclusion. Lobo is a member of UNITE, a mayoral social justice advisory committee, promoting the “Make it OK” program to support mental health awareness and destigmatize the need for help. She is also the founder of the Taunton T.O.G.E.T.H.E.R. Youth Program, sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and funded by an ARPA grant. The program, developed and operated by T.R.U.E. Diversity and Raising Multicultural Kids, is based on C.O.R. training and promotes social and emotional learning for young people.
